All Five Starters Reach Double-Figures in Balanced Attack
Patchogue, N.Y. – St. Joseph's College men's basketball team (13-2, 9-0 SKY) defeated the Old Westbury Panthers (8-7, 5-3 SKY), 88-85, in a key Skyline Conference game Thursday evening at the Danzi Athletic Center. The Golden Eagles five starters all reached double figures in scoring, led by senior guard Olivier Laurent (Amityville, NY/St. Anthony's) with 19 points. Senior forward Vincent Russo (Sayville, NY/Sayville) scored 10 of his 13 points in the second half, including a three ball immediately at the start of the second half to erase Old Westbury's 46-44 halftime lead.
The Eagles balanced attack included 18 points, eight rebounds and seven assists from senior guard Trey Black (Bayport, NY/Bayport-Blue Point), 17 points from senior guard Chris Jimenez (Huntington Station, NY/St. Anthony's) and 15 from senior forward Steve Velasquez (Hauppauge, NY/Hauppauge).
