Laurent Scores 1,000th Career Point as SJC Upends Farmingdale Again
Patchogue, NY – The first place St. Joseph's (16-2, 12-0 SKY) men's basketball team maintained their perfect record in Skyline Conference play this season as they defeated second place Farmingdale State (14-5, 10-2 SKY) for the second time this season at the Danzi Center, 75-70.  It was certainly a close contest in front of the Golden Eagles largest home crowd of the season as the lead changed hands eleven times and the score was tied on ten separate occasions.

Highlighting the night for St. Joseph's was senior guard Olivier Laurent (Amityville, NY/St. Anthony's) scoring his 1,000thcareer point at 15:54 in the second half on a lay-up.  Laurent finished the game with 16 points and seven rebounds, including scoring six of the eight Eagles points to seal the game in the last minute and a half of the contest.

Leading the scoring for SJC was senior center Shahab Syed (Huntington, NY/St. Anthony's) who had one of his best games of the year as he went 7-for-9 from the field, including 3-of-3 from three-point range, and six boards.  Syed drew the toughest match-up of the night as he guarded Farmingdale's seven foot center AJ Matthews (Brooklyn, NY/Van Arsdale), who poured in 18 points, grabbed a game-high 20 rebounds and blocked seven shots.

St. Joseph's put forward another balanced scoring attack as five players reached double figures.  Trey Black (Bayport, NY/Bayport-Blue Point) finished with 12 points and seven assists, Chris Jimenez (Huntington Station, St. Anthony's) scored 12 and Eric Klingsberg (Bayside, NY/Holy Cross) chipped in with 10.

Farmingdale State was led by Josh Smith (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) putting up a game-high 25 points along with eight boards. 

The Golden Eagles trailed by one point at the half (37-36) and trailed until the 6:27 mark of the second half despite tying the game four times in the previous 14 minutes.  Syed gave the Eagles a five-point cushion with a lay-up and three-pointer in back-to-back possessions around the five minute mark.

St. Joseph's next game is this Saturday evening at 5:30 pm when they host the Sage Gators (9-10, 5-8 SKY). They then travel to Maritime (2-18, 2-11 SKY) on Tuesday.
