Newburgh, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) softball team saw its 2017 season come to an end on Saturday afternoon with a pair of losses, 4-0 to #1 Mount St. Mary and 5-3 to #3 Sage, at the Skyline Conference Championship.
With the losses the Golden Eagles wrap the season with a 20-17 overall record as the Knights and the Gators advance to play in the final on Sunday.
MSMC 4, SJC 0
In a game that saw SJC generate only three hits, the Golden Eagles fell behind 2-0 in the top of the fourth when Kathryn Eller (1-for-4) recorded a two-RBI double to center Courtney Barbara (1-for-4) extended the Knights' lead to three runs (3-0) later in the inning with an RBI single to right center.
Cindy Connoly (1-for-2) wrapped the game's scoring in the top of the seventh with an RBI triple that scored Amanda Almodovar (3-for-4).
Sage 5, SJC 3
St. Joseph's opened the scoring in the top of the second when Kathryn Kamalic (1-for-3) scored Ashley Steponaitis (1-for-4) with an RBI single, and Valeria Scura (1-for-2) doubled SJC's lead later in the inning with an RBI single of her own.
Sage knotted the score up in the bottom half of the inning courtesy of an Amy Hart (2-for-3) two-run homer.
Destiny Wierzbicki put the Gators ahead (3-2) in the bottom of the third when her ground out scored Kiersten Duncan (1-for-3), and Brittany Brooks (2-for-3) extended Sage's lead (5-2) later in the inning with a two-RBI double to right center.
Steponaitis' (1-for-4) RBI double in the top of the seventh brought one back for SJC (5-3) but it would not be enough.
