Lady Eagles Lacrosse Tames Terriers, 17-5

Patchogue, N.Y. – After conceding the first goal of the game, The Golden Eagles (4-1) scored six straight goals and never looked back in their 17-5 victory against the Thomas College Terriers (1-1) on a rainy Wednesday evening.  The 4-1 start for SJC is their best in the short history of the program.

The Terriers didn't waste any time kick starting their offense with a goal less than two minutes into the game but just a minute later, Tori Gregson (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) received a pass from Jessica Cordano (Oakdale, N.Y.Connetquot) and fired the ball into the net to tie the game at one. At the 23:40 mark, Gregson made an impact once again as Heather Ferchland (Selden, N.Y./Centereach) was on the receiving end of her assist. Just 50 seconds later, Gregson found Danielle Dittmeier (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) to put the Lady Eagles up 3-1.

The Eagles tenacious defense continued to create chances on the offensive end. After forcing a turnover, the Eagles raced down the field as Ela Igdeler (Islip, N.Y./Islip) supplied the pass to Jenna Kelleher (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East), who became the fourth Eagle to score on the day. Less than a minute after Kelleher's goal, Cordano found Gregson for their second hookup of the day. With 15 minutes remaining in the half, Ferchland took a pass from Igdeler and beat the keeper to give her team a 6-1 advantage.

Thomas still would not go down easy as they scored two goals in three minutes to get right back into the game.  However, the Eagles offense was relentless, closing out the half with five goals in the final four minutes. Gregson and Kelleher each completed a hat trick and Gregson added a fourth to her tally. Tricia Barrett (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) scored on a free position with two minutes remaining.

SJC entered the second half with an 11-3 lead and continued to pile on the goals as the rain started to fall. Dittmeier got her second of the day and Ferchland became the third Eagle to pick up the hat trick. Caitlyn Halloran (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) scored three minutes into the half as the Golden Eagles extended their lead to 14-3. Thomas got a couple back but with 13 minutes left in the game, Ferchland got her fourth goal and Gregson notched her fourth assist and several minutes later, Ferchland put in her fifth, courtesy of Gregson's fifth assist. As time winded down, Graceann Fallon (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) put the Eagles up 17-5 and that is how the game would finish.

Ferchland finished with five goals on seven shots and Gregson had four goals on four shots and five assists.  Kelleher had three goals and two assists.  Freshman keeper, Courtney Wickline (Medford, N.Y./Bellport) made seven saves for SJC.  Nicole Lyman's eight caused turnovers set a new record for the Eagles.

The Eagles next head down to Orlando, Florida where they will take on Oswego St. and Western Connecticut State.
